Death’s Door Aftermath
Sometime after the final Death’s Door stream, Microsoft approached us to build a sequel exclusive to their streaming platform Mixer. Along with their support, we developed a more ambitious game than the first: Deaths’ Door: Aftermath. A post-apocalyptic, sci-fi RPG set in the far future after the events of the first game. The core systems were the same, but we doubled down on the elements that made the first so compelling: more choice and more Dungeon Master. We built a now standard, randomly generated map for players to choose their next destination and we created tools to more easily and safely create Dungeon Master content on the fly, enabling dedicated members of the community to add their flair to the mysterious character.
Mixer’s interactive technology allowed us to create more detailed experiences for viewers to present choices directly to players instead of requiring their input into chat. This also enabled us to build an individualized experience for players where they could collect mini-figures of characters from the game as they continued to watch streams. Their progress was saved between sessions, and we built specific content for the game that showcased players who’d collected and trained their mini-figures, encouraging player engagement over multiple streams.
While Death’s Door Aftermath is no longer streaming, you can read more about the game here.
